Quick Review of Motorola Smartphone : Defy

Motorola's new smartphone, the Defy, is built tough. When all its protective covers are securely closed, this device is dust-proof as well as scratch and water resistant.
"The Defy was designed to protect it from life's little challenges such as a sudden rain shower or a drop in the sand," the company said in a statement.
Powered by Android 2.1, the smartphone weighs 118g and has a 3.7in touchscreen that is ideal for viewing pictures, videos and websites.
The Defy supports the full suite of Google services such as Google Docs for working on documents on the go.
The phone, which has a 5-megapixel camera, also features CrystalTalk plus, a noise reduction filter that allows users to hear their callers clearly even in loud environments.
The phone can also stream files such as photos and videos to a device that supports DLNA (Digital Living Network Alliance) such as HDTVs.
Music lovers will appreciate the phone's Connected Music Player feature which can automatically download lyrics to their favourite tunes.
Defy can also double up as a portable wireless hotspot and allows up to five other devices to connect to it to surf the Internet via 3G.
More applications for the phone can be downloaded from the Android Market online. However, currently only free applications are available for download.

Hitachi unveils a slim HDTV

HITACHI has added another 1080p LED HDTV to its collection, the 46in LE46TO5A.
The aesthetically pleasing HDTV uses a number of technologies to enhance picture quality such as Edge LED backlight system, 100Hz refresh rate and Mega Dynamic Contrast.
The three technologies work together to produce clearer and sharper images with the deepest black and purest white tones at a contrast ratio of 1,000,000:1, the company claimed.
Measuring a mere 29.8mm in thickness and weighing about 15kg, the slim and light model will fit any living room and can also be mounted on the wall easily.
According to Hitachi, the LED technology is eco-friendly because the backlight does not contain harmful components such as mercury.
It is also energy efficient and uses 40% less power than CCFL (cold-cathode fluorescent lamp) lighting system utilised in cheaper or older HDTVs.
The LE46TO5A comes with several input options including a component video port and three HDMI slots.
It also has a USB 2.0 port which users can use to hook up their Flash or external drive to directly access media files. It supports MP3 songs, JPEG photos as well as MPEG1 and MPEG2 videos.

Lenovo being the first IONIZED with IDEAPAD S12

The super-cute Lenovo IdeaPad S12 just earned the title of most powerful 12″ Netbook. Thanks to its NVIDIA ION chipset, the IdeaPad S12 can play 1080p HD content at full speed on its 12″ display or an HDTV (via HDMI). That erases one of the main critic regularly thrown at Netbooks: they can’t play video right. Most importantly, it can run recent games like Call of Duty 4 or the Sims 3 (and DX10 titles) at interactive speeds while these games don’t work at all on traditional Netbook graphics like Intel’s 945G.

Lenovo used NVIDIA ION’s revolutionary design to create a thin, lightweight, low-power laptop with a 12-inch screen and improved application compatibility. The Lenovo IdeaPad S12 has the graphics horsepower to support high definition media and many PC games which will not run on most low-cost small PCs. NVIDIA ION enables these capabilities with the industry’s best graphics performance for low-power CPUs.

“NVIDIA ION is one of the latest technologies available for the PC industry for small, low cost laptop PCs, and we’re excited to be among the first to use it,” said Stephen DiFranco, vice president and general manager of consumer and commercial channels, Americas Group, Lenovo. “With its 12-inch display, full-size keyboard and rich multimedia options powered by ION, the IdeaPad S12 balances an improved computing experience along with the size and affordability many consumers are looking for today.”

“The Lenovo IdeaPad S12 with NVIDIA ION graphics is a game changer for the industry,” said Jeff Fisher, senior vice president of the GPU business unit at NVIDIA. “It’s a powerful testament to what a small PC can do if it’s optimized with ION. The thin and affordable S12 does everything you expect a PC to do including watching movies, playing games, flipping through vacation pictures or editing family videos.”

NVIDIA ION graphics support:
All versions of Windows XP, Vista, and Windows 7
Outstanding HD video including 1080p and Blu-ray movies
Stunning HD video through an external monitor via HDMI
Popular games including Spore and Battlefield Heroes
DirectX 10 graphics with advanced digital display connectivity
Accelerated video enhancement and conversion using NVIDIA® CUDA™ technology
